I have found Jackson Hole to be the most challenging resort in the US, and i have been all over. It has one or two lifts to moderate and beginner runs, but then jumps to catering to hardcore expert skiing. I have skied there three times-Spring Break, Christmas, and June. It is very crowded at lift lines during the regular season, but i never saw people while coming down the challenging terrain, which can be good and bad. In June Cody Bowl, which is just a short hike out of bounds, still has decent snow to ski, if you hike for it. The areial tram is good, but jams 50+ people into it, It takes you to the top, for a long run of expert terrain. I would not recommend Jackson Hole to a beginner skier, but only to a skier who is advanced intermediate or better. It is popular with big name skiers also. Teton village is very nice, and is undergoing expansion. Jackson Hole does offer backcountry access. It is a great resort for good skiers, and a bad resort for bad skiers.

This is the BEST ski area in the country, great terrain, amazing trails, and the best part not many crowds. It is an awesome place to hit the slopes!

JHMR has become a type of holy ground for me. Been coming back here every year since '94. I haven't found anywhere like it yet. Incredible terrain that, if you wish, makes demands of you like few others are able. Absolutely riotous intermediate and higher terrain. With a few thousand 'extra' acres outside it's open policy back country gates, the variety of terrain is stunning. It is truly impossible to be crowded unless you wish it or only ski easy groomers all the time. Go here, if you're of the right mindset, it can be skiing nirvana.
