I have been going to Jay Peak with my son for years now. Generally, it is not for the typical skier/snowboarder. But if you like trees and lots of snow there is probably not a better place in the western hemisphere and we have been to most of the great tree-skiing resorts out west. Although it's true they often have high winds, once you are in the trees it doesn't matter. If you want to experience an old style Vermont lodge with great food check out Inglenook Lodge. You can snowshoe right out their door. Dinner at the Belfry is classic too. Most important, the people at Jay are some of the most humble, laid-back, mind-your-own-business folks you'll find anywhere.

This is a skiers mountain. There is nothing 5 star about it and if you are looking for a happening night-life you should look elsewhere. However, if you want to ski great conditions over diverse and challenging terrain, Jay has a lot to offer.

I loved it. The closest thing to Taos, NM that I have found in the Northeast. Has a small mountain feel at the base, but a big mountain feel with all the glade skiing opportunities. There are even a couple of easy glade runs so that almost everyone can experience the beauty first hand. There is lots of natural snow here when there isn't at other Northeast ski mountains. It lived up to my lofty expectations and is now my favorite in the Northeast out of over 20 that I have tried over the years! I had to lower my score a bit because there is no tubing here, but I personally score it higher in my mind because it gives one a great sense of a traditional Vermont ski vacation.

I have had the oppertunity to ski all around the US, and i have to say that Jay is one of my favorite resorts. While there really is no night life the overall atmosphere is great. The snow is the best in the east by fare and the overall mountaine is all you need, chalanging for experts fun for beginners and all inbetween.

From the time we put the skis on, till the lifts closed, we were skiing the glades. Some of the best skiing I've ever done, has been right here at Jay. I've been skiing out west and the snow at Jay can compete with the best of them! There is no comparison in the Northeast, Jay is the place to be, period. Those who don't agree, just don't understand. For awesome snow, it has to be very cold. When its too cold to bare, head for the glades, there's nothin like em.

The best kept secret in the east. The closest you can get to western skiing in the east. Abundunt natural snowfall (340 inches a year on average) makes for countless powder days and excellent conditions year round. The glades are the best in the east. Everglade, timbuktu, beaver pond glade, buck woods and kitzbutzehl are my favorites. There is also guided backcountry tours of certain wooded areas in the beaver pond area. Jay also has some good bump runs (can am and jet are two of the best) and the hair raising chutes under the tram are some of the most extreme trails in the east. Jay has a softer side too with some good intermediate cruising runs and a few meandering novice trails. Conditions are superb year round but in late February and early March (when I visit) the snow is deepest and the weather is usually sunny and relatively warm. The on mountain food is good and fairly cheap. Lodging options are limited and Jay is longgg drive from Masachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Jay is inexpensive as well especially when you transfer your u.s dollars into Canadian money. (this is highly recommended)
