Burke Mountain came around during that skiing boom back in the 80's but never quite sustained itself well. Managing not to go bankrupt like Magic Mountain it has some attractive parts to it even though it is a fairly mediocre mountain terrain wise. First with the good: 1. Burke is a cheap place to ski. Lift prices are nearly half that of places like stowe and it has a poma lift which is free to use which reflects the fact that Burke isn't out to steal peoples money. 2. Burke has a nice small town ski place feel to it being isolated way up in Northern Vermont. Most of the people skiing there are from the area and are fairly devoted to the mountain. 3. Burke can also boast decent natural snow and a few high speed lifts which another small town mountain Mad River Glen cannot. 4. The ever present lift line issue is not an issue at Burke no crowds. 5. It is relatively easily accessible from I91 Now the Bad: 1. While Burke get decent natural snow its snow making abilities are somewhat poor as it does not have the money to blow snow the way some other mountains might. 2. The infostructure at Burke is poor, lodges are small and dirty and lifts are for the most part old and slow. 3. For people from the New York area in the money you spend on gas you could have paid for tickets at Mt. Snow which would probably be a better quality mountain. 4. Burke also has a problem since it is too far away from everything. 5. It has lots of old ugly beat up condos that real estate agents had to pretty much give away and thus act as a real eyesore.
