It's too bad that so many of the posted reviews are one-sidedly enthusiastic--although I guess it's swell that all the members think they're skiing at the best resort on earth. As to Loon: we've owned a house there for five years & ski there about eight to ten days a year, while skiing at other Maine & N.H. areas about ten additional days--so I think we can make some comparisons. Loon has lots going for it: the runs are long, the North Peak has several nice steep pitches; the views are varied (going off in several directions) & stunning; and the personnel are uniformly nice. But there are negatives. This is the most crowded ski resort in the area. On busy days (which can mean any weekend or vacation day) lift lines of twenty minutes or more are common. And not only is the uphill capacity limited, so is the downhill: the trails can be dangerously crowded (often with folks who don't belong on them). Another negative is the lack of terrain variety: it's almost all groomed cruisers without much in the way of options of how to ski them. The nearby ABC areas (Attitash, Bretton Woods, Cannon) have far more terrain variety (bumps, trees, you name it) and we almost never encounter ANY lift lines there, even when Loon is impossibly mobbed.
