Maine Uncrowded, Big Mountain Skiing Saddleback Mountain is located in the heart of Maine's Appalachian Mountain Range. The broad shouldered, mile-long summit ridge rises to a 4,116-foot summit. Saddleback's proximity to its well-known neighbor, Sugarloaf, has caused some to overlook the mountain, but more and more skiers are looking for an alternative to the crowds and are discovering this area. Saddleback's reputation is one of providing uncrowded, big mountain skiing. With a vertical drop of 1,830 feet, and a base lodge at 2,286 feet above sea level, Saddleback is a big mountain for New England. The ski area trail network covers an area three miles wide and offers ski terrain for every ability level. The 41 trails include wide, smooth, groomed runs, as well as tough, untamed extreme conditions on trails like Muleskinner and Nightmare Glades. And snowboarders are allowed on all trails.

The Ski Nordic Cross-Country Center offers 50 km and begins at the Saddleback base lodge. Trails range from gentle tours around Saddleback Lake to thrilling mountain descents. You can rent a full range of adult and junior as well as telemark equipment. The five lifts service the mountain efficiently, with experts enjoying the "Wells Fargo," beginners learning on the lower mountain and intermediates able to ski comfortable trails from summit to base. The town of Rangeley, a typically quaint New England town, is located just seven miles from the ski area. You will find all services ranging from dining to shopping. How to Get There Saddleback is located approximately 2 1/2 hours from Portland, Maine, and 4 1/2 hours north of Boston, Mass.
