Look at the facts. Bogus is the largest ski resort in the state of Idaho at 2,600 acres, 600 acres more than Sun Valley and double the size of Brundage. It also receives slightly more annual snowfall than Brundage or Sun Valley. New high speed lifts have replaced the problem areas and runs have been regraded to ease congestion and access. Don't believe the hype about Brundage. It's still a small hill, subject to the same weather and snow fluctuations as Bogus Basin. As the crow flies, the two mountains are only about 80 miles apart and are roughly the same elevation. Bogus has a bigger vertical drop, more lifts and more runs. The best feature of the mountain is "The Face." I'm talking about several hundred acres of steep black and double diamond terrain, peppered with widely spaced trees, cliffs and sweet cornices. Hike to the very top above Superior and follow the crest to some sweet cornices, cliffs and snow. It takes a good base for the Face to come in shape, but the wait is worth it. True, the weather at Bogus can be a bit problematic. Sitting 5,000 feet above Boise and being the tallest peak around, Bogus catches snow and wind. If you're not a whiner and hit the trees, windblown storms can lay down a lot of nice snow. Despite a few of the other comments, Bogus has some excellent tree skiing. I've skied at Bogus for about 8 years and was a regular season pass holder. Take the time to explore and get to know the mountain and you'll always find good snow and avoid the crowds. Ski mid-week. When the snow is on and if you get lucky, maybe a local will take you OB and down "Chair 7" or through the infamous Triangle or Waterfall/911 areas on Pine Creek. Despite the access road and crowds from Boise, Bogus rocks and is a local resort with it all - High speed lifts, night skiing, trees, bumps, double diamonds, cruisers, terrain park, good backcounty, all in a non-profit, affordable package.
