Vail really is an incredible place to ski. I must have been there 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years or so and it just gets better each visit. There's a vast amount of on-mountain dining which is ideal for getting in that first refreshing drink of the morning! They've just opened up another mountainside at the back of the resort as well, behind the back bowls, adding another 600+ acres to the skiing area. Lift access is great with something like 15 high speed lifts now including a Gondola from the Lionshead area. Another great activity to indulge in is going on a Snow Mobile tour at night. You can hire them out from Adventure Ridge at the top of the Gondola and a guide takes you accross the mountain. The scenery is breathtaking. This is truly the best skiing resort in the world!

I've skied dozens of resorts all over the place and Vail is the gold standard by which I judge a ski resort. The sheer volume of terain is mind boggling. With the recent expansion of the back bowls to include Blue Sky Basin, This resort is a must for any skier. Midweek Blue Sky Basin is a skier's time machine which transports you back to the 1930's when uncrowded glade skiing was the norm. During the Midweek, Blue Sky Basin is a laid back religous experience. Vail's apris ski Rocks, the service is great, and if you like resort hopping, Beaver Creek is just down the road with lots of uncrowded well groomed terrain. The Summit County Smorgasbord of resorts is also within driving distance. Don't listen to the European snobs who slam Vail for being American - they're just jealous because their idea of skiing excitement involves lots of mud, stones and lift line elbowing. If you've never been to Vail, you owe it to yourself to make the trip.

I've been to every major resort in the continental USA and Vail is still my favorite one. I like it because it has the best variety of terrain-there is something for everyone to ski here. Vail also has a superior lift system, no matter how many people might be on that mountain, you can always find a few lifts without lines-and the majority of them are high speed. Finally, I really enjoy the wide open Back Bowls-sure they might not be a steep as some would like but they do have a lot of vertical to them and you can always find some good snow there.

Vail has a lot of slopes with different levels of difficulty. There are many lifts to get you up the mountain quickly and efficiently. That way you are skiing, and not standing in line. A lift ticket at the slopes cost about $55 in season. At this price I want to ski as much as possible. At the base of the mountain, and lower elevations of the mountain is where the beginner slopes are. Although I did not ski much of these slopes, I have heard from a reliable source that would only ski in this area, that it was great. I was told the snow was great, the lifts were not crowded, and the slopes were pleasant to ski. At the mid mountain, is where the intermediate slopes are. I was able to ski these without a problem. Don't get me wrong, I still had a blast skiing on these, but I like more difficult slopes. At the top of the mountain, is where the difficult slopes are. This was excellent skiing. The snow was great, even though not many trails were groomed. In my opinion, the slopes didn't need grooming at all. Some runs were fast and steep, and others were through trees. The best skiing was on the back side of the mountain, where the snow was deep. I think that that was really cool. The powder was about knee deep and when I went through it, the powder was just pushed away. I didn't feel like the snow was bogging me down, even though I was very tired after a couple of runs. The little Vail village was a great place to spend the night life. There were great small little shops, and restaurants to eat in. The food was great no matter where you eat. Vail is a good place for a person who is looking for a great skiing vacation.
