Sunlight is a great place for families who are tired of the crowds at the big resorts. The mountain is located about 20 minutes south of Glenwood Springs about 3 hours west of Denver. Sunlight is a pretty small mountain with only three lifts, and they are the old two-person kind. The runs are fairly short and there isn't a whole lot of steepness. There is a good assortment between groomed and mogul runs, though. Advanced and expert skiers will get bored after a day. It is a great place for beginners and families, however. There are never any crowds, the longest lift line is a couple of minutes at most, usually its more like 30 seconds. Because its small, it's easy for families to meet up for lunch and at the end of the day. There is free close-in parking, which is a rarity in Colorado these days. And it is very inexpensive - full-price adult lift tickets are only $30 with discounts for children and multi-day tickets. The restaurant is a little more expensive than usual for a resort of this size but still cheaper than the big resorts. Glenwood Springs has a variety of activities for when you've had enough skiing, most notable the largest natural hot spring pool in the world. There are two pools - a smaller, warmer one that is like a very large hot tub, and a much larger cooler one, that is about two blocks long. It's a great way to unwind at the end of the day.
