Monarch is a great little place that hasn't been discovered yet, in other words its not crouded and is super friendly. the place has already got over 20 feet of snow this season so it's powder paradise. The tickets are still reasonable and they have a season pass that is good at 10 areas. If you are looking for a place to ski and relax monarch's the kick-back place for you, it's not as hectic as the bigger Colorado ski areas. It was alot closer to Denver than I thought and it was easy yo get to, I'll be going back.

When I was in junior high and high school, my youth group made several Spring Break ski trips to Monarch Mountain. I have been on several other trips to places like Keystone, Winter Park, and Breckenridge to name a few, and Monarch remains one of my very favorite places to vacation. We always stayed at the ski lodge which was just a shuttle bus ride from the ski area. Many people complain if they can't open their back door and ski, but I didn't find the shuttle bus to be annoying at all. It was free, for one thing, and ran like clock-work so you always knew when to be ready to go. I also found the lodge to be more private and cozy since it was not right at the ski area. We spent our evening time in the indoor pool or in the hot tub, which was actually outdoors. It was almost magical to be sitting in the hot tub and have snow falling around you. Of course it was a cold walk from the hot tub back indoors! Of course, the best part about Monarch was the skiing. Since Monarch is not too big, not too small, you could always count on no lift lines with the exceptions of some weekends. I loved being able to ski up to a lift and hop on, without having to wait. My favorite ski conditions would have to be powder, and Monarch always had plenty to offer. I am not sure if it is just located in a good spot in the Rockies or if we were there at just the right time, but you could always count on a couple of feet of powder, which was heaven for me. Monarch is not the place for the highly advanced or professional skier. If you are looking for big challenges and hard slopes, you probably would be best going to another, bigger resort. But if you want to take a nice relaxing vacation and do some skiing, just for fun, this is the greatest place on Earth.
