Once upon a time, this mountain held limited options for both skiers and boarders alike, especially when boards were forbidden by the brass. Now there is a great deal of additional terrain and access for all types of skiers. Grouse Mountain opened a few years ago, adding a much needed depth to Beaver Creek's expert terrain. Unfortunately, come spring the grouse gets a little thin due to the sun this part of the mountain recieves. Even with an increasing advanced terrain, as a very experienced skier I would like to see some more challenging options in the future. If you're an intermediate, the connection to Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead is an awesome addition. Beginning skiers can move up to higher skill levels until they feel the need for extreme expertise, then boredom sets in after a day, perhaps two tops, on Beaver Creek. The advantage to being at Beaver Creek is that Vail is so close by, which adds some serious diversity to the day. Come the end of the day, the families and more mature guests will thrive in Beaver Creek's warm atmosphere. Being in my early forties, I enjoy the sophisticated restaurants in which you can wear jeans while experiencing sumptuous meals. While there are casual options in the village, the moderate to upscale locations are the best features. I have noticed that families flock to the ice skating rink, although skate rentals are somewhat steep for the limited time one would realistically spend on the ice. As a skier, Beaver Creek is a pleasant vacation spot, as long as you're not looking for a college crowd that just wants to party and ski hard. You can ski hard, but let's keep this mountain for the mature and the families, which is what the terrain dictates at this time.

Some of the best skiing I've found anywhere (I've tried 32 mountains in the NE and Westin my life so far). If you like steep and long this is the place.

When Colorado is cold, it is REALLY cold. But when it is sunny and warm, it can be just perfect. I just returned from a week at Beaver Creek. Of six days of skiing, only one was miserable. The rest? Sunny and warm. The skiing is epic... Beaver Creek surpasses most resorts for grooming, including Deer Valley , with a noon-groom approach that leaves fresh corduroy for those desiring the same. Snow conditions were exceptional, with a reasonable mix of Bumps, Powder, and Pack. The race venues, including Nastar, a Carving Course, and a Coin-Op were well run and on reasonable pitch slopes. My biggest complaint, the resort is seriously lacking in steep terrain, and the tree skiing is terrible. I even went out of bounds seeking good lines, and found nothing but bad lines in hard pines (I know, Pine is a softwood, but I have some branch bruises that would argue otherwise.) As for Crowds, I was there during the busiest week of the year, and found the crowds well dispersed, with very few lift lines. Only the Centennial lift really backed up, but even that thinned out midday. Carving terrain was near perfect, both for Snowboards and Super Carvers. A fun but unimaginative Terrain Park allows both skiers and snowboarders a chance to go big. Beginner terrain is welll though out, and marked to advise experts to slow down or stay out. A great initiative. The Plaza and Ice rink give even non-skiers something to do. About the resort: I arrived Tuesday, the 22nd at the Beaver Creek Hyatt. The only time the staff was even reasonably pleasant was when they wanted some of the Bula Backpacks I was carrying. The rooms were decorated in "early Holiday Inn", and everything was overpriced. $4.00 for a redbull? Sheesh. The Spa, is reasonable... but the desk staff had to confirm my "free" membership everyday, which was quite annoying. I had a few excellent Yoga classes there, a bargain at $10. My friends all indulged in less than spectacular massages for more than spectacular prices. I live in a resort town, and know that an hour massage is $65 not $112. This was by far my biggest complaint. I overpaid for everything, and was treated poorly by most. Beaver Creeks Staff and Ski School were pleasant and couteous, but in the plaza? no- way. The Manager at Edgewise, a snowboard shop that specializes in the mid range, was more interested in telling me how great he was than listening to what I was looking for. I purchased elsewhere. At Gorsuch Ltd, where I am accustomed to finding the best of everything, they could not provide a standard tune, as they did not have the right tools (I needed a bevel guide). I am at a loss as to how they tune everyone elses skis. Granted that this is an exception, Gorsuch is truly one of the best when it comes to customer service.... just don't go there for a tune. There is a Deli in the Hyatt that I highly recommend for one thing only. They have a bagle deal where I was able to get a bagle, cream cheese, and tons of smoked salmon, a $4.00 red bull and a bannana for $6.31. I thought it was a mistake, but it was the same price every day. They also have great Oatmeal. However, the service is so slow that you have to take off your ski coat or risk overheating while you sit there. So my review of "The Beav" is mixed. I loved the skiing, and the resort, but hated the place, the prices, and the attitude. The convenience may make it all worth while... that is up to you. So would I return? Yeah most likely, but I would not stay at the Hyatt or the village. I did have some super meals at the Grouse Mountain Grill, Picasso at Cordillera, The Alpenrose, and some great food but just the worst service imaginable at Asia.
